23 THINGS THAT 2023 TAUGHT ME

23 THINGS THAT 2023 TAUGHT ME

1. Resilience: 2023 taught me that resilience is not just bouncing back; it's about adapting, learning, and growing from challenges. Of what use and value is an experience you don't take a learning from? Experience can be a good teacher.

2. Adaptability: Life is unpredictable, and the ability to adapt to change became a valuable skill in 2023 for me. Adaptability is not merely a conformist, but a predictor of change.

3. Connection Matters: Despite digital advancements, genuine human connections remain essential for our well-being.I learnt so many times in 2023 that it is much more valuable to be deliberate about relationships with friends, family and fans by stepping out and seeking genuine connections.

4. Mindfulness: In a fast-paced world as we are today, taking time for mindfulness is crucial for mental health and clarity. It is veritable to focus one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

5. Health is Wealth: The importance of physical and mental health became even more evident in 2023. Prioritize self-care and self-love; take your health seriously; exercise regularly; know the state of your health. This is even more important as one grows older.

6. Remote Work Skills: Balancing work and life in a remote environment requires discipline and effective time management. I actually achieved more in my deliverables working remotely in 2024.

7. Learning Never Ends: Continuous learning is key to personal and professional development in an ever-evolving world. 2023 made me acquire new skills that has changed the complexion of how I now approach and do business.

8. Tech Savviness: Being tech-savvy is not just for the younger generation; everyone needs basic tech skills to navigate the modern world. The days ahead sure looks interesting from this perspective.

9. Environmental Consciousness: The urgency of addressing climate change became even more apparent, prompting a shift toward sustainable living. The least one owes this ecosystem is to be aware and act in strict adherence at protecting it as much as possible.

10. Financial Literacy: Understanding personal finances is a crucial life skill. 2023 emphasized the importance of budgeting and saving (even if it isn't much). It can be very exhilarating and gratifying when one's financial goals are met at the end of the year.

11. Gratitude: Amidst challenges, cultivating gratitude for what we have brings positivity and resilience. I learnt to be grateful for what I have instead of worrying about what I don't have. Gratitude strengthens my trust in God and the things and the people He brought into my life.

12. Empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of others became a cornerstone for stronger relationships. More endearing relationships are fostered where empathy is fully displayed. That, for me, is an important learning of 2023.

13. Time Management: With various demands, mastering time management became essential for productivity and work-life balance. This has given birth to my blog, Chat On The Turf with Emmanuel Obu, where productivity and time management is the focus.

14. Global Citizenship: 2023 highlighted the interconnectedness of the world, emphasizing the need for global cooperation. I learnt that being isolated in a world of my own breeds irrelevance around me. There is relevance in global participation. Take advantage of the interconnectedness of the world.

15. Creativity: Navigating uncertainties often requires thinking outside the box and fostering creativity. 2023 taught me to reach within and pull out the best of what's inside. It taught me to use what is inside to be a blessing to my world.

16. Prioritizing Mental Health: Mental health is as important as physical health, and seeking help is a sign of strength. It is okay to seek strong shoulders to rest on when the challenges are surfacing all around. Learnt also to avoid negative energies.

17. Crisis Preparedness: From personal crises to global challenges, having a plan in place is crucial for navigating uncertainties. 2023 taught me a BIG lesson in crisis. BIG stands for "Boldly Implement Goals." Embrace ambitious objectives and take decisive steps to turn your plans into reality.

18. Grit: Perseverance and grit are indispensable qualities when facing obstacles and setbacks. The things I worked on consistently eventually paid off.

19. Balance is Key: Striking a balance between work, relationships, and personal time is vital for overall well-being. I learnt that "work isn't everything; rather everything is work." It is absolutely important to strive hard not to drop the ball in any area of life.

20. Kindness Matters: Small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect, creating a more compassionate world. The Bible cannot be faulted when it affirmed that "the liberal soul shall be made fat."

21. Embracing Diversity: Embracing diverse perspectives enriches our understanding of the world and fosters inclusivity. The difference we share is part of what makes the world an interesting place. There is beauty in diversity.

22. Letting Go: Sometimes, letting go of things beyond our control is the wisest choice for our mental peace. There is absolutely nothing you can do about what you don't have control over - it will happen regardless. Your virtue is demonstrated on how you react to those things you don't have control over.

23. Hope: No matter how challenging life gets, maintaining hope for a better future is a powerful mindset that 2023 reaffirmed for me. Always seeing the bright side of life regardless of what is happening around has become a valuable asset.

WE ALL EVOLVE

 *WE ALL EVOLVE*

Ask the dinosaur and it will tell you that in life, change is the only constant. We are all on a journey of evolution, each step shaping us into the person we are meant to become. It's easy to forget that no condition is permanent, and the one who is down today might very well be up tomorrow.

In our pursuit of success, let us not be blinded by the folly of looking down on anyone because they are disadvantaged today. Life is unpredictable, and circumstances can shift in the blink of an eye. What seems like an insurmountable challenge now might become a stepping stone to greatness in the future.

Nobody knows tomorrow, and that uncertainty should be a source of inspiration rather than anxiety. It's a reminder that opportunities are boundless, and success has no set trajectory. The person facing hardships today might be the one who rises above them tomorrow, defying the odds and inspiring us all.

So, let us cultivate empathy and understanding, for the journey of life is a shared experience. Lift others up in their times of need, recognizing that we are all evolving, transforming into versions of ourselves that we might not have imagined.

In the grand scheme of things, setbacks are not roadblocks but mere detours on the path to growth. Embrace challenges, for they are catalysts for change. As we navigate the twists and turns of life, let's remember that we are all on this journey together, and the beauty lies in the evolution of each individual.

Believe in the power of resilience, the strength that emerges from facing adversity head-on. Tomorrow is a blank canvas, waiting for the strokes of our determination and the colours of our dreams. Embrace uncertainty, for in it lies the promise of endless possibilities.

We all evolve, and in that evolution, we find the strength to overcome, the courage to dream, and the wisdom to appreciate the journey. Let's lift each other up, knowing that the one who is down today has the potential to soar tomorrow.

FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK

UNVEILING THE DEPTHS OF DIVINE LOVE: EMBRACING THE ASSURANCE THAT GOD CARES

1 Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

In the chaos that lies within the rhythms of life, where the demands of the world can be overwhelming, there exists a sanctuary of solace and unwavering support—the love of God. In all of human existence, the cord of divine affection weave through every moment, offering comfort, guidance, and reassurance. One profound verse that encapsulates this boundless love is found in 1 Peter 5:7, where the apostle Peter extends an invitation to cast all anxieties upon the Almighty, for He cares deeply.

Understanding the Context

To truly appreciate the depth of 1 Peter 5:7, it is essential to grasp the context in which it was written. Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ and a witness to His teachings, wrote this letter to the early Christians facing persecution and trials. The believers were navigating turbulent times, and Peter, having experienced the transformative power of God's love, sought to impart wisdom and encouragement.

This seemingly simple verse holds profound implications for those seeking solace and reassurance in the midst of life's challenges. Let us embark on a journey to unpack the layers of love and care embedded in this scripture.

The Invitation to Cast Anxiety

Life is replete with uncertainties, and anxieties often threaten to overwhelm us. In the midst of these storms, 1 Peter 5:7 extends a divine invitation—to cast all anxieties upon God. The imagery is powerful; it speaks of an intimate interaction with the Creator, a willingness to surrender our burdens into His capable hands.

This act of casting is an intentional release, a conscious decision to unburden ourselves from the weight of worry. It signifies trust in a the power of an able and willing God, an acknowledgment that we are not alone in our struggles.

Understanding God's Care

The heartbeat of this scripture lies in the assurance that God cares for us. The magnitude of this care goes beyond human comprehension. It is a love that surpasses understanding, a caring that extends to every facet of our existence.

God's care is not contingent on our merit or performance. It is a constant, unwavering presence that accompanies us through the peaks and valleys of life. This care is rooted in the very nature of God—a nature defined by love, compassion, and a desire for the well-being of His creation.

The Concept of Divine Love

To grasp the depth of God's care, we must delve into the concept of divine love. The Bible describes God as love itself (1 John 4:8), and this love is not a fleeting emotion but a foundational aspect of His character.

In comprehending divine love, we encounter a love that is unconditional, sacrificial, and boundless. It is a love that persists in the face of our shortcomings and failures, a love that seeks our highest good. As we internalize the reality of God's love, the assurance of His care becomes a steady anchor in the storms of life.

The Transformative Power of Trust

Casting our anxieties upon God requires an element of trust—a trust that transcends our circumstances and anchors itself in the unchanging nature of God. Trust is the bridge that connects our finite existence with the infinite love of the Creator.

Trusting God does not exempt us from challenges, but it transforms the way we navigate them. It empowers us to face adversity with resilience, knowing that we are not alone. As we cultivate trust, we open ourselves to the transformative power of divine care, allowing it to shape our perspectives and responses.

The Relational Aspect of God's Care

God's care is not a distant, detached observance of our lives; rather, it is a deeply personal and relational investment. The Bible is replete with instances of God's intimate involvement in the lives of His people—comforting the distressed, guiding the lost, and healing the brokenhearted.

The relational aspect of God's care invites us into a dynamic exchange of love. It beckons us to engage in a continuous conversation with our Heavenly Father, sharing our joys, sorrows, hopes, and fears. This relational intimacy is a testament to the depth of God's care—a care that goes beyond the superficial and penetrates the core of our being.

Overcoming the Illusion of Self-Sufficiency

In a world that often glorifies self-sufficiency and independence, the invitation of our central text challenges the illusion that we can navigate life's challenges alone. It prompts us to acknowledge our limitations and embrace the reality that we are designed for interdependence—with God and with one another.

The act of casting our anxieties upon God is a humbling acknowledgment of our need for divine assistance. It is an admission that, despite our best efforts, there are aspects of life beyond our control. In surrendering to God's care, we position ourselves to receive the strength and wisdom that transcends human capabilities.

Embracing Hope in the Face of Adversity

Life's journey is marked by seasons of joy and seasons of adversity. It is during the latter that the assurance of God's care becomes a beacon of hope. 1 Peter 5:7 does not promise a life devoid of challenges; rather, it assures us that we do not face these challenges alone.

In the crucible of adversity, God's care becomes a source of enduring hope. It is a hope that transcends circumstances, a hope anchored in the character of a loving and sovereign God. As we cast our anxieties upon Him, we exchange despair for hope, trusting that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

The Role of Prayer in Experiencing God's Care

Prayer is the conduit through which we communicate with God, and it plays a pivotal role in experiencing His care. The Bible encourages us to present our requests to God with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6), and in doing so, we engage in a dialogue that deepens our awareness of His presence.

Prayer is not a mere ritual; it is a heartfelt conversation with a God who listens and responds. As we pour out our hearts before Him, we align our will with His, opening ourselves to the transformative power of His care. Through prayer, we cultivate intimacy with the Divine, drawing near to the One who cares for us beyond measure.

The Ripple Effect of God's Care

The impact of God's care extends far beyond the individual. As recipients of His love, we become conduits of that love to those around us. The ripple effect of divine care manifests in acts of kindness, compassion, and selfless love toward others.

In a world hungering for genuine connection, the revelation of God's care through our lives becomes a powerful testimony. It testifies to a love that transcends human limitations and points others to the source of true and lasting fulfillment.

WHAT DOES THIS PORTEND?

 *WHAT DOES THIS PORTEND?*

The women in my church just had a very great outing at their Annual Sisters' Convention this last Sunday. You can always trust women to step out with pomp and pageantry display when the occasion calls for it. Nigerian women especially with their 'owanbe' mentality cannot be ignored when it comes to this type of an affair. They truly painted the sky blue and doused the atmosphere with palpable excitement and enthusiasm.

I really wish we could do this more often. I saw genuine happiness and display of camaraderie amongst the women. Previously sullen, long faces gave way to a bubbly, happy demeanour; largely withdrawn ladies stepped out also to be counted. The women danced and jubilated as though there was a promise to award the best dancer of the day. The ones who had challenges with their legs or hips surprised themselves, only to realise that they will pay the price for daring to do the unthinkable.

In the midst of all the festivity, rhapsodic atmosphere of jubilation and ululation, there was a sad twist that gave me so much concern. And how I wish I have the power to resolve it with the snap of my fingers. In the midst of all of the above described, I saw a group of women who courageously sought to take advantage of the opportunity presented to them to loosen up and shroud what they are really going through with optimism and hope that what lies ahead is truly promising. Many of them embraced the moment regardless of what they might be going through. This to them was an opportunity too good to miss.

As I evaluate the interesting contrast before me, the only thing I could feel was not pity but praise for these warriors who braced the daunting challenges around them to still make space for joy and happiness.

The country is really tough! There's no gainsaying that at all. How people are surviving to make ends meet in this travailing economy remains a mystery to me (I am also included in this mysterious calculation). I have asked myself how people who earn certain amount of income on a monthly basis, with a sizeable family, survive the economic burden we have been saddled. How do they do it? Truly, there must be a Nigerian spirit that defies logic and commonsensical analysis! We are just a special breed!

Part of the programme included a Medical Outreach. That's where I got the shocker of all - over 90% of the people tested (men and women) had a medical challenge or the other! The most prevalent being high blood pressure!

When you interview any one of them, they tell you the stress the economy is giving them is much. This country, everything she stands for, has become multi-dimensional stressors! Many Nigerians are sick, and a lot of the sickness stem from economic travails. My question and concern therefore as I drop my pen today is, what does this portend for us as a people and for Nigeria as a nation?

CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND BUSINESS STRUCTURE DESIGN: KEYS TO SUCCESS FOR LEADING CORPORATES

CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND BUSINESS STRUCTURE DESIGN: KEYS TO SUCCESS FOR LEADING CORPORATES

Introduction

In the ever-evolving landscape of global business, leading corporates understand the critical importance of sound corporate governance and a well-designed business structure. These two elements are like the pillars that support the organization, ensuring its longevity, growth, and ethical integrity. In this opinion piece, I will delve into the significance of corporate governance and the design of business structures, providing insights for established and aspiring corporate leaders.

Corporate Governance: The Bedrock of Ethical Operations

Corporate governance refers to the set of processes, customs, policies, laws, and institutions affecting the way a corporation is directed, administered, or controlled. It plays a vital role in maintaining transparency, accountability, and fairness within an organization. Leading corporates recognize that good corporate governance is not just a compliance requirement but an essential element for long-term success. Some crucial and key aspects of corporate governance include, amongst many other things a well put together:

1. Board of Directors: The cornerstone of corporate governance lies in the composition and effectiveness of the board of directors. A diverse and independent board, with members possessing a variety of skills and experience, ensures better decision-making and oversight. Leading corporates make sure that their boards are not just a rubber stamp but active and engaged in guiding the company's strategic direction.

2. Transparency and Disclosure: Transparency is a fundamental tenet of corporate governance. Companies must provide comprehensive and clear information to stakeholders, including shareholders, regulators, and the public. Leading corporates maintain transparency through timely and accurate financial reporting, regular communication with shareholders, and a commitment to ethical business practices.

3. Risk Management and Compliance: Effective risk management is another key aspect of corporate governance. Corporates must identify, assess, and mitigate risks to protect the interests of stakeholders. Compliance with applicable laws and regulations is essential to prevent legal and reputational damage. Leading corporates establish robust risk management frameworks and compliance programmes.

Business Structure Design: The Blueprint for Success

The design of a business structure is the framework on which an organization's operations are built. Leading corporates understand that the right structure can enhance efficiency, foster innovation, and drive growth. The choice of structure should align with the company's goals, industry, and competitive landscape.

1. Centralized vs. Decentralized: Corporates must decide whether they want a centralized or decentralized structure. A centralized structure can streamline decision-making, while a decentralized structure can promote innovation and agility. Leading corporates often strike a balance between the two, tailoring their approach to their specific needs.

2. Organizational Culture: The design of a business structure should reflect the desired organizational culture. Leading corporates create structures that encourage collaboration, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. The culture should align with the corporate values and vision.

3. Adaptability: In today's rapidly changing business environment, adaptability is key. Leading corporates design structures that can easily adapt to market shifts and technological advancements. They often embrace hybrid structures that combine elements of different traditional models to remain agile.

Conclusion

In the overall analysis of corporate excellence, leading corporates understand that corporate governance and business structure design are not static concepts. They are dynamic, evolving, and interconnected elements that require ongoing attention and adjustment. By prioritizing sound governance practices and thoughtfully designing business structures, companies can navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and maintain their position at the forefront of their industries. Whether an established corporate giant or an emerging player, these principles are the blueprint for success in the complex and ever-changing world of business.

Keep My Word

SUNSET IN MAGADA

In Magada's gentle embrace, we find,

A fusion of eras, both old and refined.

A suburban haven, in Ogun's embrace,

Where modernity meets tradition's grace.

As the sun dips low, in a fiery array,

Painting the sky in hues of gold and gray,

Magada awakens, a place to explore,

Where ancient tales and futures galore.

Amidst the sprawling bustling streets, people converge,

A mosaic of cultures, they do merge,

From past to present, hand in hand,

In Magada's heart, they understand.

The elders share stories of days long past,

While youth chase dreams, from first to last.

The echoes of history in every stone,

In Magada's soul, they're not alone.

The rhythms of life, a harmonious blend,

In this suburban haven, where hopes ascend.

Sunset in Magada, a sight to behold,

A testament to stories, both new and old.

HE'S CALLING...HE'S BEEN WAITING

HE'S CALLING...HE'S BEEN WAITING

Tormented by your past, in shadows you reside,
Insecure about the future, lost within the tide.
Unable to forgive yourself for sins that won't rescind,
Thinking God won't pardon you, as darkness lurks within.

But His grace trumps guilt, like a beacon in the night,
His love defeats sin, and sets your soul aright.
In the darkest hour, when despair begins to brew,
Run to Him, embrace His light, for He's the Way, the Truth.

A shepherd for your wayward heart, a guide when you're astray,
Jesus is the path to peace, to lead you from dismay.
No matter what you've done, His mercy knows no end,
Reach out to Him, dear lost soul, on Him, you can depend.

With open arms, He waits for you, your Saviour and your Friend,
To wash away your burdens, and all your sins to mend.
In His embrace, you'll find the solace you've been searching for,
So run to Him, embrace His love, and fear and guilt no more.

I CAN'T BREATHE...

I CAN'T BREATHE...

Grimy grips of wickedness
Accentuated by wry smiles of evil
Whoever made these restorers of breaches
And the upholder of moral justices
Taking the chokehold to new heights
Even with restraints and constraints
Ebbing the very life out of me
I can't breathe...

What crime have I committed
Could it be for my skin colour
Or your self delusion and insecurity
Could it be because I have an attitude
Or the craze for you to be heard
That you slammed me to the floor
Slapped my wrist with the lawbreaker's bangle
I can't breathe...

This dark cloud o'ercast the land
Modestly tangles with the anger in me
Of what use is the 1863 declaration
When some still feel superior to others
How much human can we be
If we are divided by creed or colour
And could proudly take another out
I can't breathe...

What really awaits you hereafter
If you think this will resolve self
And like it has always been, will go away
If you don't take a stand now
What would you ever stand for
What will posterity e'er judge you by
A valliant or a hero
I can't breathe...

In not many days hence
What looms will bring to its knees
The evil in the eyes of men
That looks at others as less and insufficient
It will surely send unrestricted messages
To their egoistic tendencies and folly
That all lives matter because
I can't breathe...

The world on her knees must know
Mankind on their knees must be aware
That no matter your skin colour
All race belong to the human race
We are united by the breath in us
Given by the Life Source
Now, I need to breathe.

IS IT TRUE THAT WHAT COMES EASY DOES NOT LAST?

Taking a hard, definitive stance about issues sometimes might not really be wise - I have learnt that there are two sides to a coin. As a student of life quotes and philosophy, I can tell you for free that human philosophy is ambivalent and never fully balanced. Perspectives is usually the case with interpretation most times.

I recently felt very uneasy about a claim that alluded to the fact that whatever came easy won't last. Whilst I do not believe either that what comes hard will last. I had a very robust jaw-jaw with a younger friend in Canada who posited intelligently in agreement with that earlier assertion. Pastor Dennis Ogbebor, you have a very rich and brilliant mind.

Back to my proposition. Ease or simplicity in various aspects of life doesn't always equate to transience. Many easy or straightforward elements can contribute to lasting and meaningful outcomes, proving that not everything that is easy won't last.

Let me cite some examples:

1. Innovation and Technology: Many technological advancements and innovations make our lives easier, yet they have a long-lasting impact on society. Consider the internet, smartphones, or medical breakthroughs; they've simplified tasks and revolutionized entire industries while standing the test of time.

2. Efficiency Improvements: Streamlining processes and making them more efficient often leads to lasting benefits. Businesses, for example, constantly seek ways to simplify operations, which can result in increased longevity and competitiveness.

3. Healthy Lifestyle Changes: Some straightforward lifestyle changes, like drinking more water or getting enough sleep, are relatively easy to implement. However, they can have long-lasting positive effects on health and well-being.

4. Good Communication: Effective communication is key to building and maintaining relationships. While it may require effort to improve communication skills, once mastered, they contribute to lasting and meaningful connections with others.

5. Education: Acquiring foundational knowledge and skills may be considered "easy" when you have access to quality education. However, the education you receive can last a lifetime, opening up opportunities and shaping your future.

6. Supportive Relationships: Some friendships and relationships naturally develop with ease, yet they can become some of the most enduring and cherished bonds in your life.

7. Simple Pleasures: Enjoying simple pleasures, like a beautiful sunset or a warm cup of tea, can be easy and fleeting moments of happiness. However, these small joys can accumulate to create a lasting sense of contentment and well-being.

I have always liked a balanced view of issues. Taking extreme positions might be very costly sometimes, except if and only there is an affirmative instruction from God, the Supreme and infallible One, regarding such. Maintaining a balanced position is true wisdom. The best of human wisdom is subject to change.

AND THE WATER BROKE...

In the vast array of life, we often find ourselves entangled in the web of challenges, difficulties, and unforeseen obstacles. These moments can feel like an eternal night, where hope dims, and the weight of the world bears down on our shoulders. But amidst the darkness, there exists a profound certainty, if we can hold on to hope, that the best will yet surface.

The journey of life is akin to a pregnancy. We conceive dreams, nurture them with effort and determination, and patiently await their birth. However, just as in childbirth, the path to realizing our dreams is often fraught with pain, uncertainty, and moments when it feels as though our world is breaking apart. Yet, consider this: when a woman's water breaks, it signifies the onset of labour, the commencement of a process that will ultimately bring forth new life into the world. Similarly, when life's waters break in our own existence, it heralds the birth of new opportunities, growth, and transformation. The breaking of water symbolizes that pivotal moment when adversity strikes, when it feels like our very foundations are crumbling beneath us. It's in these moments of vulnerability that our true strength emerges.

Just as a mother summons unimaginable reserves of strength to bring new life into the world, so too can we draw upon our inner fortitude to overcome adversity. The key is to remember that, just as a mother knows that the birth of her child is imminent, so should we hold fast to the knowledge that brighter days are on the horizon. No matter how dark the night, the dawn is inevitable.

Let's remind ourselves that the most challenging moments in life are often the precursors to our greatest triumphs. Every trial we face, every obstacle we encounter, is a testament to our resilience and our capacity to endure. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we can emerge from the depths of adversity - stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever. So, when life's waters break and the storm rages around you, take a deep breath and remember that this too shall pass. Your moment of joy, success, and fulfillment is drawing near.

Embrace the pain and discomfort, for they are the heralds of a new beginning. Have faith in your strength and your ability to navigate the tempest. This is a rallying cry to remind us that we are capable of enduring, overcoming, and achieving our dreams, no matter how challenging the journey may be.

In the end, it is the struggles we face that make the victories all the sweeter. So, keep pushing forward, for your moment of joy is approaching, and it will be more beautiful and rewarding than you ever imagined.

THE CHALLENGE OF KEEPING A BRAND PROMISE

Dealing with service providers in this part of the world can be so challenging and frustrating. Many a business owner make unsustainable claims all in the name of wanting to sell their services. Many of these people don't know how much disservice they are doing to their brands in the long run. Thank goodness for those who trained me and from whom I learnt very quickly while starting out to always under-promise but over-deliver. This philosophy has helped me tremendously and I have had clients who have been there with me for this long (except of course for those 'prostituting clients' who always come running back after getting their fingers burnt). There is truly nothing as good as establishing your business on the pedestal of integrity.

A brand promise is a commitment that a company makes to its customers, employees, and stakeholders about the value it will deliver through its products, services, and overall brand experience. It is a crucial element in building and maintaining a strong brand identity, as it sets expectations for what customers can expect from a particular brand.

However, failing to keep a brand promise can have serious consequences for a company. For one, it can erode customer trust and loyalty, leading to a decline in sales and revenue. Customers who are disappointed by a brand's failure to deliver on its promises are likely to switch to competitors that offer more reliable and consistent experiences.

In addition to losing customers, a brand that fails to keep its promise can also suffer damage to its reputation. In today's digital age, negative reviews and social media posts can spread quickly and easily, causing significant harm to a brand's image. This can be particularly damaging for small businesses, which may not have the resources to combat negative publicity.

Furthermore, not keeping a brand promise can also have a negative impact on employee morale and retention. When employees feel that their company is not living up to its promises, they may become disengaged and less committed to their work. This can lead to lower productivity, higher turnover, and difficulty attracting top talent.

Not keeping a brand promise can have significant and long-lasting consequences for a brand. It can damage customer trust, harm a brand's reputation, and negatively impact employee morale and retention. Brands must take their promises seriously and work tirelessly to meet and exceed customer expectations, in order to build and maintain a strong and successful brand identity.

THANK GOODNESS, THE ELECTIONS ARE NOW OVER!

Elections are a vital aspect of democracy. It provides an opportunity for citizens to choose their leaders and decide the direction of the nation. This year's elections also offer a chance for the consolidation and sustenance of democracy and the gains that have been made so far. However, the aftermath of an election is as important as the election itself. It is a period of reconciliation, healing, and consolidation of the gains made. The post-election period presents an opportunity for the winning candidates and the defeated oppositions to come together and work towards the betterment of the country.

There is a huge and needed task of consolidating on the gains we made regardless of all the attendant problems faced in the build up of this elections, by all the stakeholders - the election umpire (INEC), the electorates and those to be elected into office.

The introduction of the BVAS was instrumental in making the process a little more seamless and quicker. The reliability however, is yet to be proven as that will be an issue in the court of law, as some of the contestants are already heading there for fair hearing (which they are welcome to explore as it is within their constitutional rights to do so). Another point of concern is the pockets of violence, disruptions and threats to life experienced during this time. They were often fueled by the polarization of the political environment, with supporters of different candidates and parties engaging in exchanges that discolours our existence as a one and united people. Ethnicity and religion has been dangerously weaponised. The outcome of such violence has been seen to be devastating, leading to needless loss of lives, unwanton destruction of property, and the untamed disruption of social and economic activities. The challenge, therefore, is to find ways to prevent or manage such violence, especially in the post-election period. We need to seek ways and engage all stakeholders to build something viable and enduring as a collective.

Another challenge is the need to address the grievances of the opposition. Elections often lead to winners and losers. The defeated parties may feel that the election was not free and fair, leading to protests and calls for the nullification of the results. The challenge, therefore, is for the winning party to address these grievances in a transparent and fair manner, reassuring the opposition that their concerns are being heard and addressed. Failure to address these grievances can lead to a lack of trust in the electoral process, which can have negative consequences for future elections.

Threats to life are also a significant challenge that has to be addressed. It is not uncommon for politicians and their supporters to receive threats, leading to fear and uncertainty. This can be especially true for opposition politicians, who may feel targeted by the winning party. The challenge, therefore, is to ensure the safety and security of all politicians and their supporters, regardless of their political affiliation. This can be achieved through the provision of adequate security, the implementation of laws to protect politicians and their supporters, and the promotion of a culture of non-violence and tolerance.

Despite the challenges of consolidating gains after an election, there are several steps that can be taken to ensure a peaceful and successful transition.

One of the first steps is to promote national unity and reconciliation. Elections often create divisions among people, with supporters of different candidates and parties holding grudges against each other. The winning party can take the lead in promoting unity and reconciliation by reaching out to the opposition and other stakeholders. This can be done through the establishment of a national unity government or the inclusion of members of the opposition in key government positions. Such a gesture can help to ease tensions and promote a sense of inclusivity.

Another critical step is to address the grievances of the opposition. The winning party should take the concerns of the opposition seriously and be willing to engage in dialogue to find solutions to the issues raised. This can be done through the establishment of a commission to investigate allegations of electoral malpractices or through the provision of legal avenues for the opposition to challenge the results. Addressing the grievances of the opposition can help to promote trust in the electoral process and reduce the likelihood of future conflicts.

The promotion of a culture of non-violence and tolerance is also essential to consolidating gains after an election. Political leaders should use their positions to promote messages of peace and unity, encouraging their supporters to refrain from engaging in violent behaviour. The media can also play a role in promoting a culture of non-violence by reporting on the importance of peaceful and a united country.

In my view, the Labour Party has done well to rock the boat and establish itself as the third force many of us have been clamouring for. By tipping the scales, they have shown and proven that 'structure' is a fad. The Nigerian electorate is interested in voting competence rather than allowing a party run rough shod over an entire nation. For the first time, we saw gubernatorial candidates 'begging' for votes; more females were elected across board; long-serving politicians who have held on to power like it's their birthright were booted out of office and a lot of political neophytes emerging. The electorates have simply proven that it is not party as usual; and this outcome must be sustained by continued engagements between the party structure and the masses. Ideologies has to be projected and the common good that will be beneficial to all, instead of a select few, be largely discouraged.

Finally, bridges should be built between political rivals and a future collectively charted for the sake of our future and the future of our children.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress!!!

THE FUTURE OF MONEY - PART 2

THE FUTURE OF MONEY - PART 2

The concept of money has undergone tremendous changes over the centuries, from the barter system to the modern-day digital currencies. Money has evolved into a complex system that is constantly being reshaped by new technologies, economic systems, and political policies. The future of money is one that is shaped by the changing dynamics of global economics, technological advancements, and social values. In this concluding write-up, we will explore some of the key trends and developments that are shaping the future of money.

One of the most significant changes in the world of money is the rise of digital currencies. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies have gained widespread popularity and acceptance in recent years. These currencies are decentralized, meaning that they are not backed by any government or central authority. Instead, they are created and managed by a decentralized network of computers and users. This makes them highly secure and resistant to fraud, as well as offering privacy and anonymity to users. As the technology behind cryptocurrencies continues to improve, it is likely that they will become an increasingly popular alternative to traditional forms of currency.

Another trend that is shaping the future of money is the rise of fintech. Fintech refers to the use of technology to provide financial services, such as online banking, payment processing, and investment management. Fintech companies are disrupting the traditional banking industry by offering more convenient and efficient services to consumers. This is driving innovation and competition in the financial sector, which is ultimately benefiting consumers.

One of the most significant challenges facing the future of money is the increasing income inequality that exists in many countries. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, it becomes more difficult for people to access financial services and participate in the economy. This is driving the need for innovative solutions to help bridge the wealth gap, such as microfinance, social impact investing, and other forms of financial inclusion.

As technology continues to evolve, it is likely that new forms of money will emerge. For example, some experts predict that we may see the rise of virtual currencies that are tied to specific platforms or ecosystems. These currencies could be used to facilitate transactions within those ecosystems, such as in online gaming or social media. Additionally, the rise of blockchain technology is likely to have a significant impact on the future of money. Blockchain is a decentralized ledger system that allows for secure and transparent transactions without the need for a central authority. This technology has the potential to revolutionise the way we live and transact in the future.

Central Banks world over are positioning for these realities. How well should you as an individual be positioned so that the tide will not sweep you away, but that you will be able to ride the storm when it hits?

THE FUTURE OF MONEY - PART 1

THE FUTURE OF MONEY - PART 1

The future of money is a topic that has captured the attention of many experts and academics around the world. In recent years, the evolution of technology and the changing nature of financial transactions have led to a significant shift in the way we use money. As we move towards a more digital and interconnected world, it is essential to examine the future of money and its potential impact on society.

One of the most significant changes in the future of money is the rise of digital currencies. Digital currencies are electronic forms of payment that are not backed by any government or central authority. They are decentralized, meaning they are not controlled by any single entity, and they operate on a peer-to-peer network. The most popular digital currency is Bitcoin, which was created in 2009. Since then, many other digital currencies have emerged, including Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin.

Digital currencies offer several advantages over traditional currencies. They are faster, cheaper, and more secure than traditional payment methods. They also offer greater privacy and anonymity, making them attractive to people who value their financial privacy. However, digital currencies also pose several challenges. One of the biggest challenges is their volatility. Digital currencies are known for their wild price swings, which can make them difficult to use as a reliable store of value.

Another significant change in the future of money is the rise of mobile payments. Mobile payments are transactions that are made using a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet. They are becoming increasingly popular, particularly in developing countries, where access to traditional banking services is limited. Mobile payments offer several advantages over traditional payment methods. They are faster, more convenient, and often more secure than traditional payment methods.

The rise of mobile payments is also leading to the growth of financial inclusion. Financial inclusion refers to the access that individuals and businesses have to financial services, such as banking, savings, loans, and insurance. Mobile payments are helping to expand financial inclusion by providing access to financial services to people who previously had no access to them. This can help to reduce poverty and promote economic growth.

In addition to digital currencies and mobile payments, the future of money is also being shaped by other technological developments, such as blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. Blockchain technology is a distributed ledger technology that is used to record transactions in a secure and transparent manner. It has the potential to revolutionize the way we conduct financial transactions by providing a secure, decentralized, and transparent platform for transactions.

Artificial intelligence is also playing an increasingly important role in the future of money. AI can be used to analyze financial data and provide insights that can help individuals and businesses make better financial decisions. It can also be used to automate financial tasks, such as trading and investment management, which can help to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

In conclusion, the future of money is being shaped by a range of technological developments. Digital currencies, mobile payments, blockchain technology, and artificial intelligence are all playing an increasingly important role in the way we use money. These developments offer many advantages, such as increased efficiency, greater security, and expanded financial inclusion. However, they also pose several challenges, such as volatility and the potential for disruption. As we move towards a more digital and interconnected world, it is essential to carefully consider the potential impacts of these changes and work to ensure that the future of money is a positive one for all.

MY PRAYER FOR NIGERIA

 MY PRAYER FOR NIGERIA

Zechariah 1:18-21 - Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. 19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. 20 And the LORD shewed me four carpenters. 21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH NIGERIA:

1. The Horn of Ethnicity

2. The Horn of Religion

3. The Horn of Corruption

4. The Horn of Wickedness

Until these evil horns are frayed, we remain jokers.

Intercession For My Land:

Dear God, I pray You will be put in Your rightful position in this country. Give the leaders of this nation the wisdom and integrity to lead our nation in the best direction. Give each one discernment I pray, when making decisions or drawing up the legislation and laws that they pass. And may the decisions that they reach be godly and wise.

As the days become increasingly dark in our country, I pray that the light of Your love will shine on this land. May peace reign in our nation and protect us from those that would seek our downfall, I pray.

Lord, I know that You are the One that places rulers in their high positions of honour, and You are also the One that removes leaders from their elevated perches. I pray that in Your grace and mercy, You would look down on our nation and intervene with those that are severely oppressing their own people.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and whether at a national level or in local governance, I pray Your blessing on those men and women that are seeking to follow Your way, as they implement their authority. I also know, Lord, that the opposite is true and that those who defy the living God will come to no good.

Have pity Lord, and convict the leaders of our nation to turn to You. Protect our people that are having to live with corrupt and evil government. And may the Lord Jesus Himself return very soon to set up His perfect kingdom in this world, when the earth will be filled with a true knowledge of You.

Lord, I pray for our nation and ask that You would look down on us in pity and mercy. Forgive us for the way that we have turned our backs on You in so many ways and bring us back as a people who seek to follow the ways of justice and peace.

Keep our land free from war and aggressions, from destructive winds and adverse weathers, from fear and confusion, and from other things that can cause hurt and fear and confusion. May we as a nation turn to You and call out to You in the day of trouble.

Be close to all our leaders, from the President to the governors, and to local council leaders and give them wisdom and discernment as they rule this nation. May the decisions that they make be wise, and Lord, I pray that our nation would turn to You for Your wisdom and Your strength.

Be with all those that are oppressed and downtrodden and especially those that do not know You as their Saviour. May there be many that come to know You as their Saviour in this my country. I pray that the gospel may be preached in this land from shore to shore, openly and truthfully. Keep us from compromising Your Word of truth. Restore to this nation the joy of Your salvation and bring many to a faith in the Lord Jesus as Saviour. I pray in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

SO MUCH FOR A UNITED COUNTRY

During my recent visit to the East I had encounters that kept me wondering how far we have fared as a 'united' country and a people bound together in freedom, peace and unity. Encounters that kept me questioning whether indeed we as a people have done well to live together as one.

A lot of these events (the recent and previous ones that I have had) further accentuated the conundrum or dilemma of whether Nigeria is a country or a nation. (In all fairness, that's an argument I have safely left in the hands of anthropologists and social experts to decipher).

When I read the brilliant and prolific Chinua Achebe's last book, THERE WAS A COUNTRY, I knew those in my generation missed a very critical part of our country's history. I knew there is so much to relish and relive in the Nigeria of the pre-independence era. I knew that inspite of the checkered past, what we have is worth salvaging if we truly believe in this country.

After what was described as the 'needless coup' of January 15, 1966, a very bad and sinister seed of division was sown and it has grown to become a big tree, covering the entire mass of the Nigerian geographic and mental space. We all live with a devious, unverified and unsavoury misconception of one another. A lot of the assumptions we make of ourselves are at best a figment of our wildest imagination. We live with a lie that is hindering the peace and well-being of our great country. We live with a false assumption and conjecture of prevarication about one another.

My position, which is very interesting and yet a bit unassuming derives from the fact that I am kind of 'neutral' in all of this (maybe not entirely neutral). This is so because of where I stand in all of these mistrust I see and I hear being peddled by low minds to push us further down the drain of disunity.

As a matter of fact, my children have both Igbo and Yoruba names.

I am from the Igbo-speaking part of Delta (I'm Ika by birth to be precise) and I have lived all my life with the Yorubas in the Southwest. Interestingly, the Igbos don't see me (or my people) as one of them - they see me (or us) as a hybrid of some sort - except when it pays them, economically or politically, to do so.

The Yorubas on the other hand don't accept any argument about being of the Idunoba's extraction that I put forward. They are very quick and swift to unequivocally describe me as 'omo aganabo' (whatever that means), in order to dismiss me or my people to a state of vacuum spatium.

It is worrisome because even though I have a sense of my identity as an Ika man, my idea of brotherhood is destroyed without any form of decency and justification. This is why I described my state earlier as a conundrum of some sort.

That is not even the reason for this musing. Let's get back to the issue of national unity which is my key interest for putting pen to paper.

I have watched sadly from my 'neutral position' how divided we have become just based on unfounded lies and uneducated rhethorics that many uninformed minds have passed down the generations like an oral tradition. We have succeeded in building bulwarks of mistrust and negative perception between the ethnicity across this nation. I sincerely wonder how we are going to survive this, really.

Like it will happen in Bodija in Ibadan (and I have personally seen this happen a lot of times also in the West), the driver of the vehicle I boarded spoke to me in Igbo as we were on our way to Nnewi and I responded to him in English. You should have seen how this man flared up! He accused me, that as an Igbo man, I should not have responded to him in English when he spoke Igbo to me.

'A na su igbo, รณ na su oyibo' he said entering into a tirade of insults and abuses.

He continued to bicker for over 45 minutes while driving. I stayed calm and was amused at his level of ignorance. The thoughts that kept running through my mind was how arrogant and how presumptuous? This man was stupidly both.

You can't just assume that everyone you see in Onitsha is Ibo or can speak the language. In the first place, I reserve the right to communicate in whatever language I deemed fit provided we both can understand each other. Secondly, I speak an 'hybrid' Igbo, which might even hamper our communication. (I had done this in the past speaking in my own dialect to an Ibo man and he ended up making mockery of me. So, I made it a matter of choice to always communicate in English forthwith).

That event passed and I had the privilege of sitting with some strangers who interestingly were talking about the Yorubas. I was visibly miffed at the uninformed conclusions these people (both young and old alike) reached about a people they had so-called co-existed with for decades and generations. The conclusions and assumptions they drew were just outrightly annoyingly false.

Before you begin to cast an aspersion, it isn't different from the experience I have had in the West as well; where the Yorubas have funny and undignifying appellation for my Igbo folks. They deride the Igbos as people that are uncultured and lack respect. No statement can be farther from the truth.

In Nnewi, I saw a beautiful culture that is robust and steeped in mutual honour and respect. The culture was about conviviality and mutual inclusiveness.

The experience of the past few days have shown me not to draw conclusion on matters that I do not have grounded knowledge about. I have been taught that respect for others will birth a response of respect in my direction too. I have learnt that we all have the responsibility of changing the narratives by being good to our neighbours, not minding where they come from. I have learnt that the question of national unity is a responsibility for all of us.
